Fluid art is one of our signature practices, centred on movement, intuition, and the natural interaction of paint.
Using acrylic paints, colours are layered and guided across the surface to create organic flow, depth, and energy. Some pieces incorporate silicone oil, which is used selectively to encourage the formation of cells and natural separations within the paint. This technique introduces unpredictability and dynamic patterning, allowing the artwork to evolve in unexpected ways.
Other works rely on Australian Floetrol, which is mixed with acrylic paint to improve flow, extend working time, and support smooth, consistent movement across the surface. Floetrol allows the paint to travel, layer, and interact without the use of silicone, producing softer blends, lacing, and more subtle cellular effects.
Each approach offers a different outcome, and the choice of technique is guided by the intent of the piece rather than a fixed formula. Some artworks are bold and dramatic, others quieter and more layered — all shaped by timing, colour choice, and the natural behaviour of the materials.
No two fluid artworks are ever the same. Each piece is a one-off expression, created through a balance of control and surrender, where the final result is as much about the process as it is the finished work.
